Underarm Hair Removal
Come the warm weather, millions of women will be reaching into their closets for their spring and summer, sleeveless, fashions. You’ve got to get rid of that underarm hair that you’ve been letting grow under the safety and cover of winter turtlenecks and sweaters.
Shaving
There are, of course, many ways to rid yourself of it, the question you need to ask yourself is how quickly does your underarm hair grow. Some women are very fortunate, that their hair is not only sparse, but takes ages to even reach the stubble stage. Lucky them. If your hair grows quickly, you may need to shave every day. Fortunately, it should only take a quick (careful) swipe or two of a razor while you’re in a hot shower (the steam helps to plump up your hair follicles, making it easier to shave). Naturally, you put yourself at more of a risk for a razor nick, ingrown hair or other irritation, but it’s by far the easiest and cheapest method.
Creams
Depilatory creams, while safe for underarm use, are not entirely practical, since you need to keep the cream from being sloughed off by your arm movement. Some of the chemicals may be too harsh for sensitive underarms, and cause a burning sensation or rash; if that happens, you should discontinue its use immediately.
Waxing
Waxing is a better choice, and it only takes a few minutes to do. It is painful, there’s no getting around that. A warm wax is liberally applied to the underarm, and a linen cloth is placed over the wax and gently pressed into it. When the wax has cooled, and with a good hard swift yank, material, wax and hair, is pulled off of your skin, and you’ve now got hairless, albeit (temporarily) stinging, underarms.
Electrolysis and Laser Treatments
For the women who seek a more permanent solution to underarm hair removal, laser hair reduction or electrolysis hair removal may are better choices. With the laser procedure, hair removal is not permanent, but relatively long lasting. Beams of intense laser light are passed over the skin, and destroy the follicles. With electrolysis, underarm hair removal is permanent, but the procedure is more time consuming (and painful) because it requires a probe to be inserted into each individual hair follicle, a quick zap of electricity, and move onto the next follicle. Bear in mind, that if you choose either of these long term solutions, you may have to return for more than one session, since not all of your hair will be in the “growing” stage, the only one in which it can be “killed.”
If you’re living in an area that enjoys seasonal weather, you only need to worry about underarm hair removal for a few months during the year. If that’s the case, you may want to weigh the pros and cons of a cheap, temporary solution to underarm hair removal, such as shaving or waxing versus a more costly long term or permanent hair removal method, such as electrolysis or laser reduction.
